A self-portrait from my second capstone project, “From the Courtroom to the Newsroom”. …. I stand in front of a projection of a contact sheet from Dorothea Lange’s essay on a public defender in 1950s Oakland. The portrait aims to be the convergence of my life in photo and public defense. What was once a scary thought about changing careers, I now realize is just two sides of the same coin. Both industries are a public good and public service, often being checks on the systems so engrained in our society.
